Ganesh idols up to 45cm allowed on Metro 3; other lines set wider limits

Devotees using Mumbai Metro 3’s Aqua Line can carry Ganesh idols up to 18 inches, or 45cm, during the festive season. The limit is measured from an idol’s base to its highest point.

MMRCL has placed notices at several Metro 3 stations setting out the rules for passengers carrying idols. The line runs between Cuffe Parade and Aarey-JVLR, via Dadar and Dharavi. The operator has asked passengers to ensure fellow commuters are not inconvenienced.

On Metro lines 2A, 2B, 7 and 9, the permitted idol height is up to three feet. These routes serve stretches including Dahisar East, Andheri West, Mankhurd, Chembur, Gundavali and Kashigaon.

Inflammable or explosive substances, shrapnel, dangerous objects, hazardous materials and other prohibited articles will not be allowed on board. Mumbai Metro 1, which links Versova, Andheri and Ghatkopar, will also permit idols, though its permissible height has not been specified.
