Garbage lifting delays leave Gurugram collection points overflowing

At Khandsa, Prashant Kumar says garbage has not been lifted adequately from the local secondary collection point for months, leaving large heaps near his home. The site has caught fire several times in recent months; two fires there in June each took more than 24 hours to douse.

Residents in Sector 110 and Palam Vihar have made similar complaints about the Bajghera collection point. Bharat Nain, a Sector 110 resident, said trucks bringing waste far outnumber those taking it away, while rainwater has made the area muddy and difficult for workers to use.

Waterlogging also interrupted door-to-door collection around the Carterpuri point in Sector 21 for several days, according to RWA general secretary Kundan Lal Sharma. Waste dumping resumed after water was pumped out.

MCG says 12 of the city’s 14 collection points are operating. Prem Puri has been closed for months, and waste from the shut Sector 70 site is to be diverted to Beri Wala Bagh along NH-48. Joint commissioner Sapna Yadav said the corporation is examining complaints and will fine contractors found responsible. Another MCG official said monsoon conditions had slowed truck movement.
