Gaur Chowk underpass opening delayed to Diwali, GNIDA says

The Gaur Chowk underpass is unlikely to open by August 15, with the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) now targeting Diwali for its opening.

GNIDA said the main civil structure is ready, while bituminous surfacing of the carriageway, approach-road and kerb work, road markings and street lighting remain pending. The ₹92-crore, six-lane underpass will run parallel to the Taj Highway along the 60-metre road, extending 350 metres on each side of Gaur Chowk.

Construction has narrowed movement on this stretch of the Taj Highway. Both ends of the underpass remain blocked, and drivers must turn left and use service lanes to pass through the area.

The project began in July 2024 with an 18-month deadline. GNIDA said GRAP restrictions and pauses during peak traffic hours slowed construction. The underpass is intended to allow traffic travelling between Greater Noida, Gaur City and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway to bypass Gaur Chowk, which also handles vehicles from Noida, Surajpur and Crossings Republik.

GNIDA deputy general manager Vijay Rawal said the authority plans to open the underpass to the public by Diwali.
