Gautam Budh Nagar marks Independence Day with tributes and civic-duty call

Sandhya Gupta, daughter of freedom fighter Shiv Narayan Gupta, was honoured at the Gautam Budh Nagar collectorate as district magistrate Medha Roopam unfurled the national flag for Independence Day.

Roopam asked residents to see the day as a continuing commitment to their duties, urging participation in cleanliness drives and support for people in need. She also asked government employees to work with dedication and honesty in public service. Students from Dharam Public School, Greater Noida, were felicitated for cultural performances.

At the police lines, commissioner Laxmi Singh unfurled the flag and administered a pledge to personnel to protect the country’s unity, integrity and sovereignty. The commissionerate recognised personnel for distinguished and courageous service, and felicitated the families of five personnel who died on duty: Tirathpal Singh, Rohit Yadav, Subodh Kumar Singh, Bijendra Kumar and Sunil Bhati.

The Noida Shaheed Smarak Sanstha honoured next of kin of 45 martyrs at the Sector 29 memorial. Flag ceremonies and cultural programmes were also held by RWAs, schools and universities across Noida and Greater Noida.
