Bengaluru: GBA fines firms ₹3 lakh over Ballari Road pole work

New electricity poles at Palace Guttahalli Junction on Ballari Road must be reinstalled after the Greater Bengaluru Authority said an inspection found they did not meet prescribed technical standards.

The GBA fined project consultant Siddhishakti Pvt. Ltd. ₹1 lakh and contractor JMC Constructions ₹2 lakh, citing construction-quality lapses and non-compliance with specifications.

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda noticed the installation while travelling on Ballari Road on July 31 and said the newly erected poles did not appear to follow prescribed spacing standards. He directed an inspection and asked officials to ensure the work met required norms.

B-SMILE officials, including technical director B.S. Prahallad, later inspected the site and found irregularities in the design and technical specifications, according to the GBA. The authority issued show-cause notices on September 4 to the Assistant Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer concerned.

The GBA has directed the agencies involved to rectify the poles immediately.
