GDA clears Hindon embankment and Chaudhary Mode elevated road projects

Ghaziabad’s proposed international cricket stadium, Aero City and Harnandipuram township are to be protected by a 7km embankment along the Hindon after the GDA board approved the ₹190-crore project on Friday.

The planned six-lane embankment will run from City Forest to Farukhnagar. A GDA official said it is intended to safeguard the three proposed developments from flooding.

The board also cleared a ₹200-crore elevated road, about 2km long, from Chaudhary Mode to GT Road. The route is expected to ease congestion around Bhatia Mode, Chaudhary Mode and Ghanta Ghar, including the busy GT Road–Ambedkar Road intersection near Chaudhary Cinema, a temple and surrounding market.

The state government has sanctioned funds for the elevated road under the urban challenge fund. The Centre and Uttar Pradesh’s urban local body department are each to contribute 25% of the cost, while the remaining half is planned through market-based financing. GDA plans to have IIT Roorkee prepare the design.

Among other decisions, the board approved a revised plan for Ansal Urban Condominiums, affecting 1,600 homebuyers whose project has been stalled for nearly two decades.
