Ghaziabad DM orders removal of illegal bus pickup points on NH-9 near Sector 62

A 30-minute NH-9 jam left Supertech Icon resident Kumar Anupam late for work in Nehru Place on Thursday. He said buses stopping along the highway near Noida Sector 62 routinely hold up traffic.

At a road safety committee meeting, Ghaziabad district magistrate Ravindra Mandar directed National Highways Authority of India officials to immediately clear illegal pickup points and submit a report. “Any lapse that creates a risk for commuters cannot be ignored,” he said.

UP Roadways permits passengers to board and alight only at designated locations. On this stretch, buses are meant to use service lanes, but they stop at several points; buses lining up side by side can block those lanes. Passengers have also been seen carrying bags over the four-foot central divider and crossing traffic to reach buses.

NHAI said it has acted against more than 100 illegal cuts and access points and deployed traffic marshals. The district administration has asked traffic police and PWD to conduct a fresh survey for accident black spots, while NHAI and other departments must submit compliance reports. Mandar also ordered a loop near Dasna to be completed by September after work was stalled during the Kanwar Yatra.
