Ghaziabad police book two women in DU scholar’s death case

A 24-year-old Delhi University PhD scholar died on August 25 at Prateek Grand in Siddharth Vihar, Ghaziabad. Vijay Nagar police have now registered an FIR for alleged abetment to suicide against his girlfriend and a mutual friend.

The scholar, from Jodhpur and enrolled at Deshbandhu College, had been staying with relatives in a third-floor flat at the housing society since August 18. Police said his uncle, Pramendra Kumar, later submitted a note written by the scholar.

ACP (Kotwali) Upasana Pandey said the note stated that he was ending his life by his own choice and would not name anyone. The family told police that he had spoken to the two women for long periods on the phone.

CCTV footage supplied by the society shows the scholar walking towards the stairs on the third floor at about 7pm, then taking a lift to the 27th floor, police said. His body was recovered shortly afterwards.

Police have sought his call-detail records. His phone has been sent for forensic examination, while investigators review the CCTV footage.
