Ghaziabad restricts heavy vehicles on GT Road from 5pm to 9pm

Heavy vehicles will not be allowed on the Lal Kuan–Bulandshahr Road Industrial Area stretch of GT Road between 5pm and 9pm daily from September 5, Ghaziabad traffic police said.

The restriction applies to a section running through the Bulandshahr Road industrial area. Police said freight traffic has regularly slowed evening movement there. The measure will continue until further orders, with police to assess traffic conditions after it begins. An industry body was consulted before the restriction was decided.

Earlier proposals to ease congestion on the route, including an elevated corridor over Thakurdwara flyover and road widening through the removal of shops, did not materialise.

The Ghaziabad Development Authority has approved a separate proposal for a 2km, four-lane elevated road from Ramlila Ground at Ghantaghar to Bhatia Mod via Chaudhary Mor. IIT Roorkee planned the project, estimated at ₹200 crore, which is to be funded through the state-sanctioned Urban Challenge Fund.
