GMDA to GIS-map Gurugram roads, drains and civic assets

Gurugram’s roads, drains and other GMDA assets will be mapped through Geographic Information System technology and assigned digital IDs under directions issued by CEO PC Meena.

The authority plans to use the mapping to create records that can help identify and maintain infrastructure. Meena also reiterated GMDA’s quality-control rule: contractors must first complete a 100-200 metre pilot stretch. Engineers will inspect its design, quality and execution before work on the remaining road or structure proceeds.

Officials said court matters have held up work on about 220 metres of the Dwarka Expressway service road, part of Rampura Road and around 600 metres of the Multi-Utility Corridor Road.

Meena asked officials to complete plantation work in GMDA-area green belts before November and restore footpaths for pedestrians. He also reviewed surveillance plans: 1,200 cameras have been installed in Phase I and 2,722 are being added in Phase II. Another 365 cameras and 29 speed radars are planned at 23 junctions through an arrangement with Maruti Suzuki India Ltd and an NGO, taking the proposed total to 4,287 cameras by year-end.
