Gurugram: Greenwood City residents seek drainage fix after wall demolition

Residents of about 300 homes in Greenwood City said waterlogging has worsened since a toe wall was demolished on August 26, as they protested outside the DTCP office in Gurugram on Tuesday.

The wall near Block A in the Sector 45 colony was about 35 years old, residents said. They told officials that parts of Greenwood City lie roughly three to seven feet below surrounding areas and that its internal drainage system was not built to handle runoff from Sector 45 and Kanhai village.

Vinod Dahiya, president of the Block A RWA, said the demolition also opened three previously blocked roads, bringing through traffic into the colony. Residents submitted a memorandum to the Gurugram deputy commissioner and asked the department to examine original layouts, road alignments and drainage plans for the area.

Amit Madholia, district town planner (enforcement), said DTCP removed the wall because it violated the Haryana Urban Development Act, 1975. He said the department would not permit a replacement wall but would take up the waterlogging complaint with the concerned authorities. Sector 45 residents have also been called for a meeting after their RWA sought continued public access to the roads.
