Gurgaon agencies get seven-month schedule for winter dust control

Gurgaon’s road-owning agencies have been given a September-to-March calendar for dust control, with monthly workshops, fixed coordination meetings and weekly messages for residents and commuters.

Under the Commission for Air Quality Management’s Haryana IEC Action Plan, agencies must hold monthly sessions on mechanised sweeping, road repairs, dust suppression, paved shoulders, restoration after utility work and identifying dust hotspots. GMDA in Gurgaon and MCG in Manesar are to conduct on-site sweeping demonstrations in September, December and February for machine operators and supervisors. These will cover legacy-dust removal, water sprinklers, anti-smog guns and GPS-based reporting of sweeping operations.

Road agencies are also scheduled to meet water, sewerage, gas, power and telecom departments in September, January and March, with a focus on dust-free excavation, disposal of excavated material and prompt road restoration.

The plan asks agencies to issue weekly messages asking people not to dump waste on roads and to report damaged stretches and dust hotspots. Gurgaon’s HSPCB regional office must also conduct monthly workshops for industries and diesel-generator users on emission standards, monitoring equipment, cleaner fuels and GRAP compliance. Active road projects must train contractors on dust control, barricading and covered debris transport when work begins, and again where needed.
