Gurgaon asks offices and schools to shift online on August 25 after 70mm rain

Gurgaon received 70mm of rain by 1.30pm on Monday, flooding stretches around Rajiv Chowk, Narsinghpur, Hero Honda Chowk, IFFCO Chowk and the Naharpur underpass.

The District Disaster Management Authority has asked corporate offices, government and private schools, and other institutions to facilitate work from home on August 25. The aim is to ease road congestion and give civic agencies room to carry out drainage and road repair work.

Traffic slowed on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, including near Cyber Hub and Gateway Tower Metro station. School buses and ambulances were caught in waterlogging on Sohna Road, while old Gurgaon locations including Sadar Bazar, Gurdwara Road and Old Delhi Road saw jams through the afternoon. Municipal teams were directed to keep pumping arrangements running at flood-prone points.

In Delhi, water accumulated around ITO, Mathura Road, Connaught Place, Bhairon Marg, Parliament Street and the Zakhira underpass. Fifteen Delhi-bound flights, including two international services, were diverted; 11 went to Jaipur. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Delhi, warning of rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
