Gurgaon expands checks on illegal construction beyond DLF colonies

Gurgaon’s enforcement drive against alleged illegal construction and unauthorised commercial use of homes is widening beyond the DLF phases to other licensed colonies.

The Haryana Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has formed nine teams to inspect residential properties for departures from sanctioned building plans, zoning rules and permitted land use. Teams have begun work in areas including Sushant Lok-1 and 2, Ardee City, South City and Suncity, and have been asked to complete the survey by August 15 while filing daily reports.

Sushant Lok-1 is a first focus area, where around 500 properties may be issued notices after the survey. Inspections in its A, B and C blocks have already led to some show-cause notices, officials said. The wider exercise also covers colonies such as Rosewood City, Uppals Southend, Nirvana Country, Mayfield Garden, Greenwood City, Vipul World and others.

Officials are checking for construction in stilt parking spaces, deviations from approved plans and homes allegedly being used for offices, PG accommodation, guesthouses, clinics, salons or showrooms. Where violations are established, owners may first receive statutory notices and an opportunity to comply. Continued or serious violations could lead to sealing or demolition, while the department may also consider cancelling occupation certificates or seeking utility disconnections where rules allow.

The drive follows a Supreme Court order of August 4 that called for action on the ground, including sealing or demolition where warranted. DTCP has sought an action-taken report and draft affidavit by September 7.
