Gurgaon founder’s metro-salary calculation puts a price on time

A ₹1.5 lakh monthly salary in Gurgaon can look very different after rent, commuting and day-to-day convenience costs, Gurgaon-based founder Dr Sunny Garg said in an Instagram video.

Garg used the example of a person paying ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 in rent in Gurgaon, Mumbai or Bengaluru. He said cab fares, fuel, parking, domestic help, childcare, food deliveries, weekend outings and trips to visit family can change what that income actually affords.

“Because a metro doesn't just charge you rent for space; it also charges you rent for your lack of time,” Garg said. He described how workers may pay more to live closer to offices, order food when cooking time is scarce, or hire help while managing work and childcare.

He compared this with a person earning ₹80,000 to ₹90,000 in a Tier-2 city, who may have a larger home, a shorter commute, family nearby and potentially higher savings. Garg said metros still offer career opportunities, networks and faster growth, but urged people to weigh the quality of life their pay can buy rather than the salary figure alone.
