Gurgaon government schools face teacher shortage two days before exams

At Government Senior Secondary School, Fazilpur Jharsa, 15 teachers have been assigned as booth-level officers and four as BLO assistants, leaving principal Mukesh Kumar to manage roughly 780 students largely on his own ahead of exams beginning August 18.

Kumar said it was difficult for one person to handle teaching, student supervision and administrative work at a school of that size. Teachers said nearly 90% of government schools in the district were facing some level of shortage, with some schools enrolling 600 to 700 students left with only one or two teachers.

The gaps extend to Bhondsi, where staff said high enrolment had already stretched the teachers available. School heads are concerned about arranging invigilators, distributing question papers, recording attendance, collecting answer sheets and completing evaluation work.

District Primary Teachers’ Association president Ashok Prajapati said teachers were sent for training before being assigned BLO duties in large numbers. Teachers have approached the district elementary education department, seeking staff to be returned before August 18 or an alternative arrangement for examinations and academic activities.
