Gurgaon logs 66.5mm rain in a week, 58% above its seasonal norm

Gurgaon received 66.5mm of rain between August 21 and 27, 58% above the district’s normal weekly rainfall of 42.2mm.

The wet week stood apart from Haryana’s broader picture: the state averaged 21.6mm against a normal 31.2mm, leaving it 31% below normal for the period. Gurgaon recorded no rain in the 24 hours ending 8.30am on August 27, indicating that most of the week’s rainfall fell earlier.

For the monsoon season so far, Gurgaon has received 408.2mm since June 1, against a normal 390.9mm — a 4% surplus. Faridabad received 64.7mm during the week, 38% above normal, while Palwal logged 66.8mm, 126% above normal. Rewari, however, received 13.6mm, 52% below its weekly normal.

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds were reported across Haryana on five days during the reporting week. The IMD linked the shifting pattern to the monsoon trough and an upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Haryana and adjoining areas.
