Gurgaon plans 4,287 CCTV cameras for traffic monitoring by December

GMDA says Gurgaon will have 4,287 CCTV cameras by December, with the expanded network intended to detect speeding, red-light violations and other traffic offences.

The authority is installing 2,722 cameras at 258 locations under Phase II of its surveillance project. Gurgaon already has 1,200 cameras in operation. Another 365 cameras and 29 speed radars are being installed at 23 junctions through an agreement involving GMDA, Maruti Suzuki India Limited and Utkrisht Society for Safe Haryana.

GMDA said the new network will include automatic number-plate recognition, red-light violation detection, pan-tilt-zoom and general surveillance systems, along with face-recognition cameras and speed radars. It plans to connect the systems to its Integrated Command and Control Centre for real-time monitoring and automatic challans.

The CSR-backed junction coverage includes stretches of SPR, Golf Course Extension Road, MG Road, Old Delhi Road and the Cyber City–Golf Course corridor. GMDA has also proposed 1,000 more cameras at 69 junctions in areas including Manesar, IMT, Sohna Road, Sushant Lok, Kanhai and Palam Vihar.

The authority also plans cameras at major drain starting points and confluences, recurring waterlogging locations and garbage-dumping sites. GMDA CEO PC Meena has asked officials to expedite the work and repair barriers and divider ends at accident-prone locations.
