Gurgaon police add attempted murder charge in Golf Course Road collision

Kalyan Bainsla, 33, and his cousin Lovneesh, 32, were arrested near Dausa, Rajasthan, on Tuesday in connection with a collision that threw biker Shivani Chauhan from her motorcycle on Golf Course Road, police said.

Footage from Chauhan’s bike camera shows a Maruti Ciaz travelling alongside her Aprilia RS 457 before the collision near the Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station on Sunday morning. Her motorcycle then slid across the road as traffic passed.

Police said they reviewed the footage and added an attempted murder charge against Bainsla, who they said was driving the car. Police had registered an FIR on Monday after taking suo motu cognisance of the video, initially alleging rash or negligent acts that endangered life.

The Sector 56 SHO recorded Chauhan’s statement at her Delhi home on Tuesday. Police said they also added provisions related to alleged physical or digital stalking and insulting a woman’s modesty.

Police said Chauhan avoided fatal injuries because she was wearing safety gear. Bainsla had denied deliberately hitting her, saying he had tried to avoid a collision.
