Gurgaon police detain Jharsa couple as Sector 90 spa probe expands

A woman found during Friday night’s checks at spa centres in Sector 90 gave investigators leads that took Gurgaon police to Jharsa, where they apprehended a man, Sahil, and his wife.

Police are examining the couple’s alleged links to 10-12 associates and whether premises and vehicles connected to them were used to transport or house women. The woman also told police she had allegedly been forcibly kept at a Jharsa premises while she was a minor; investigators are verifying that account.

On Saturday night, police and the Haryana State Commission for Women raided a paying-guest accommodation in Sector 38. Officers found 13 men and eight women, including foreign nationals, and took them in for questioning. Police said they were checking the foreign nationals’ registration and immigration status, and would examine any C-form violations.

The latest action follows a six-hour operation at Sapphire Mall in Sector 90 on Friday, when police checked about 18 spa centres and said eight were allegedly being used for illegal activities. A fresh FIR under applicable provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and the Foreigners Act is being registered at Sadar police station, police said.
