Gurgaon seeks more train halts as ₹300 crore station rebuild advances

Gurgaon’s ₹300 crore railway-station rebuild will not by itself solve the city’s rail-connectivity gap, Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh has told the railways, seeking more train halts and local services for commuters.

The station is being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Plans include a five-storey building, commercial areas, improved access and passenger facilities.

Singh raised the demand in a meeting with railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, pointing to the daily flow of passengers between Gurgaon, Rewari and Delhi. At present, trains stopping at Gurgaon largely run towards Delhi, Jaipur and Rajasthan; travellers heading elsewhere often have to board from New Delhi, Anand Vihar or Nizamuddin.

He also sought MEMU services on the Delhi-Rewari route for short- and medium-distance journeys, and asked that construction be accelerated so passengers can get basic facilities sooner. Redevelopment work at Rewari and Pataudi stations, along with underpasses, washing lines, halts and foot overbridges, was also discussed.

Vaishnaw assured Singh that the demands would be examined. He said train halts at Gurgaon would increase after the station-upgrade work is completed.
