Gurgaon traffic police deny Rs 50,000 challan over flooded-road boat stunt

A car-trading platform has apologised for a publicity stunt that placed a blue boat on a waterlogged road in Gurgaon during recent heavy rain and flooding.

The company had said in a social-media post that authorities impounded the boat and issued a Rs 50,000 challan. Gurgaon Traffic Police denied this, with Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyapal Yadav saying the department had neither received a complaint nor issued a challan in connection with the activity.

The platform subsequently clarified that Rs 50,000 was the cost of carrying out the marketing activation, not a traffic penalty. It acknowledged that no police authority had issued a challan and apologised to the Gurgaon administration, police and residents for the misleading communication.

The company also accepted that placing a boat on a public road was unsafe. It said it would revise its internal approval and external communication processes after the episode.

For Gurgaon residents, the incident has renewed attention on waterlogging during heavy rain, while also underlining that disruptions or obstructions on public roads can create avoidable safety risks. The police denial means the claimed enforcement action should not be treated as an official traffic penalty.
