Gurgaon’s 62 government school buildings to undergo fresh safety checks

Sixty-two government school buildings in Gurgaon district are set for a fresh physical assessment after Haryana flagged 2,814 school buildings statewide as decrepit in earlier district reports.

Gurgaon district has about 570 government schools across Gurgaon city, Farrukhnagar, Sohna and Pataudi. Of the 62 buildings previously reported in poor or unsafe condition, 34 are in the city, 16 in Farrukhnagar, five in Sohna and seven in Pataudi.

Additional deputy commissioners in every district have been directed to verify conditions on the ground and submit reports by September 30. The exercise will determine whether the reported damage still exists, and whether it is confined to rooms, roofs, walls or other facilities, or affects an entire structure.

Officials will prepare a school-wise action plan from the assessment. Buildings requiring limited work are to be repaired; if a full structure is found to require demolition, its material must first go through the prescribed auction process before clearance.
