Gurgaon rainfall 1% below normal after dry week

Gurgaon received 5mm of rain in the week to August 19, moving the district from a monsoon surplus to slightly below normal rainfall.

IMD data puts cumulative rainfall from June 1 to August 19 at 338.9mm, 1% below the seasonal normal. On August 12, the district had recorded 333.9mm and stood 12% above normal. As the seasonal rainfall benchmark increased, Gurgaon’s position fell by 13 percentage points despite receiving additional rain.

The district remains within IMD’s “normal” rainfall band, defined as a departure between 19% below and 19% above normal. It has moved from the surplus side of that range to slightly below normal in the latter half of the monsoon.

IMD expects little or no rain in Gurgaon over the next week. If the forecast holds, the rainfall departure may widen. Gurgaon recorded Haryana’s lowest minimum temperature of 22°C, while its maximum reached 34.7°C.
