Gurugram ambulances delayed by potholes, jams and flooded roads
Doctors and ambulance drivers in Gurugram say congestion, damaged roads and waterlogging can delay emergency journeys, especially during rain.
An ambulance reportedly took 30 minutes to cover 4km near Golf Extension Road last month, as drivers cited congestion, potholes and waterlogging.
An ambulance took 30 minutes last month to reach a residential society about 4km from Marengo Asia Hospital on Golf Extension Road, according to doctors and ambulance drivers in Gurugram.
They said traffic congestion, potholes, waterlogging and motorists failing to yield can delay the final stretch to patients. They identified Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, NH-48, Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension Road and roads linking residential sectors to major hospitals as recurring trouble spots.
On Monday, after Gurugram tehsil received 75mm of rain between 8am and 5pm, an ambulance was stuck on Sohna Road for about 30 to 40 minutes. Drivers said waterlogged roads can require staff or family members to move patients some distance to reach a vehicle, while deep water can disable ambulances.
Between February 15 and March 19, 2024, Gurugram traffic police fined 52 motorists ₹10,000 each for blocking or delaying ambulances.
