Gurugram: GMDA orders pumps and drain links after waterlogging

GMDA CEO PC Meena inspected Subash Chowk, Vatika Chowk, the area outside Airia Mall, Medanta Road and its adjoining underpass, Tau Devi Lal Stadium, and parts of Gurugram’s Old City on Tuesday after heavy rain caused widespread waterlogging on Monday.

At Subash Chowk, where water accumulated on Monday afternoon, Meena directed officials to construct a sump, add pumping capacity and deploy super-sucker machines to desilt sewage and stormwater drains. He also asked them to ensure rainwater-harvesting systems function properly.

At Vatika Chowk, Meena told officials to divert as much stormwater as possible into the Leg 4 drain to reduce pressure on the Badshahpur Drain. Near Airia Mall on Sohna Road, he directed an immediate pumping arrangement to move standing water into nearby ponds and johads. GMDA has proposed a surface drain along the Sector 68/69 road as a longer-term outlet.

On Medanta Road and near Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Meena directed officials to connect existing surface drains to a new drain for continuous stormwater discharge.
