Gurugram marks Independence Day with stadium parade and neighbourhood events

At Tau Devi Lal Stadium, the traffic police contingent took first place in Gurugram’s Independence Day parade, followed by the women police and Prajatantra ke Prahari contingents.

Haryana assembly deputy speaker Krishan Lal Middha unfurled the national flag, inspected the parade and paid floral tribute at the Veer and Shaheed Smarak. Seven contingents, led by assistant commissioner of police Abhilaksh Joshi, included Gurugram Police, women police, traffic police, home guards, NCC senior boys, student police cadets and Prajatantra ke Prahari.

Students performed “Vande Mataram”, Krishna Leela, and Punjabi, Rajasthani and Haryanvi folk dances. Blue Bells School, Sector 4, staged a presentation on women’s empowerment, while laser and dumbbell shows were also part of the programme.

Flag-hoisting ceremonies were held in Sohna, Pataudi, Manesar and Badshahpur, as well as at housing societies, RWAs and private offices. DLF’s Freedom Run began at Club5 at 8.15am and finished at DLF Summit Plaza, drawing at least 1,000 residents.
