Gurugram MCG House discusses action on stray cattle

More than 7,000 stray cattle are estimated to be on Gurugram’s roads, MCG officials told an MCG House meeting where councillors called for stronger enforcement.

Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra said the civic body would take stricter measures after the discussion, which followed the approval of 14 ad hoc committees on civic and infrastructure matters. Ward councillor Naresh Kataria proposed a separate committee to examine cattle on roads and the rising number of dairies. MCG officials said they were discussing the committee’s formation and membership.

Officials listed Ambedkar Chowk towards Sohna Road, Wazirabad, Sikanderpur, Sunset Boulevard, Khushboo Chowk, Maidawas Road, Old Railway Road and the Gurugram-Faridabad road among the affected stretches. They also said cattle had been spotted in several Old Gurugram sectors.

MCG has formed four teams to catch cattle and send them to cow shelters. On September 7, the civic body said it had assigned an agency to capture and transport cattle across six wards. MCG has also warned dairy operators and livestock owners against allowing animals to roam in public spaces.
