Gurugram PG operator dies after alleged shooting; former Army man arrested

A Gurugram paying-guest accommodation operator died after he was allegedly shot during a discussion over loan repayment on Tuesday evening, police said.

Sector 14 police and the Crime Branch's Manesar unit arrested Amarjeet Grewal, a former Army serviceman, from Delhi within hours, police said. Grewal retired from the Indian Army in 2024. Police said he had lent the PG operator ₹6.5 lakh in 2021, of which ₹1.5 lakh remained unpaid.

The two men knew each other through a common friend and met to discuss the money, police said. An argument followed, during which Grewal allegedly fired a pistol at the operator before leaving the spot.

The operator's wife raised an alarm after hearing the gunshot. Neighbours and PG occupants gathered, and the man was taken first to Kalyani Hospital in Sector 14 and then to Fortis Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police registered a murder case at Sector 14 police station on a complaint from the man's friend. Teams are questioning Grewal and searching for the weapon police say was used in the shooting.
