Gurugram reports 145 garbage hotspots; residents flag overflowing waste

Gurugram has 145 identified garbage-vulnerable points, down from 242 in 2025, MCG officials said. Residents in Sectors 21, 23A and 31, however, say overflowing waste remains a daily problem.

MCG said the number of such points had fallen to 182 by the end of 2025. It awarded tenders to two agencies in early August to clear the remaining sites and said a permanent door-to-door collection system would improve conditions.

In Sector 23A, residents identified five large dumping spots, including an 18-metre stretch near Janamdiwas Park and areas near the cremation ground and Carterpuri. Bhawani Shankar Tripathi, a resident, said people encounter heaps of garbage as they leave their homes.

Sector 21 RWA general secretary Kundan Lal Sharma said waste had filled the sector market, with garbage spilling from tractor trolleys onto roads. In Sector 31, residents said a dump near the market was overflowing onto adjoining roads.

The complaints follow reports of garbage-lifting delays across Gurugram. The sanitation workers’ strike entered its 28th day, with workers seeking regularisation of firemen and contractual municipal employees, among other demands.
