Gurugram directs offices, educational institutions to go online Tuesday

Gurugram offices and private educational institutions have been directed to move online on Tuesday after heavy rain disrupted roads across Delhi-NCR.

The District Disaster Management Authority directed government departments, corporate offices and private educational institutions in Gurugram to adopt work-from-home and remote-learning arrangements. Officials said reducing non-essential traffic would allow drain clearing, dewatering and urgent road restoration to continue.

In Delhi, Monday’s downpour left waterlogged stretches at Mathura Road, Connaught Place, Bhairon Marg, ITO and the Zakhira underpass. Commuters also reported long jams near Sarai Kale Khan and the Dwarka Expressway, while water accumulation affected areas around New Ashok Nagar Metro Station, Burari, CR Park and Alaknanda.

Rainfall recorded until 1.15pm on Monday included 67 mm at Janakpuri, 57 mm at Chhatarpur and 35 mm at Pitampura. The IMD had issued a red alert for heavy rain in Delhi, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph forecast in parts of the capital.
