Haryana plans ANPR cameras at 2,478 NCR petrol pumps before October fuel restrictions

Fuel stations across Haryana’s NCR districts are set to screen vehicles through number-plate cameras before dispensing fuel from October 1.

The Haryana transport department is finalising a tender for automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras at 2,478 petrol pumps in 14 districts. The cameras are to be linked with the VAHAN vehicle-registration database and pollution under control certificate (PUCC) records by the end of September.

Vehicles without a valid PUCC, with missing or expired registration, and diesel vehicles meeting Bharat Stage-IV standards or below are to be denied fuel under directions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management in May.

The first phase is planned for 775 pumps in Gurugram, Faridabad, Jhajjar and Sonepat. Officials plan a trial at 300 pumps in those districts by the last week of August, testing camera installation, vehicle identification and tracking through integrated command-and-control centres.

Fuel-station operators are expected to receive registration and PUCC-validity details instantly. Haryana’s Food and Supplies department has been assigned to enforce the directions at stations.
