Haryana seeks explanation over cleanliness funds for Gurugram primary schools

Gurugram’s 135 government primary schools can receive ₹8,000 a month for cleanliness work if they do not have part-time cleaning workers.

In an August 20 letter, the Haryana education department sought an explanation from district elementary education officer Sumita Rangi over an alleged delay in allocating the money. The department also sought clarifications from elementary education officers in Faridabad and Jhajjar.

The funds for the 2026-27 academic session cover 10 months, excluding vacations. School management committees can use them to clean school premises, roofs, toilets and playgrounds, and for drainage work and removal of stagnant water.

Dushyant Thakran, a teacher at Sushant Lok Government Primary School, said funds had not been credited for months and that some bills from the previous year remained pending. Mukesh Yadav of Fazilpur Jharsa Government Primary School said the amount was credited through the treasurer’s office once every two or three months rather than monthly.

Rangi denied that there had been a delay and said every school had received the funds. The department has asked district officials to explain the allocation process.
