Heavy rain slows Delhi-NCR traffic as IMD issues orange alert

Heavy monsoon rain affected movement across Delhi-NCR on Wednesday, with reports of waterlogging and traffic congestion during peak hours. The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for moderate to heavy rain in Delhi.

For commuters, the immediate impact was slower road travel on waterlogged routes and the possibility of delays during busy office-hour traffic. Residents heading out may want to allow extra travel time and check local traffic updates before choosing a route.

The rain also brought a break from the city’s sultry weather. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 26.6°C, which the IMD said was 1.3 degrees below the season’s average. The maximum temperature was expected to be around 32°C, according to one report.

Delhi’s air quality remained in the satisfactory category, The Times of India reported. While the rain has eased temperatures, continued heavy showers could keep low-lying roads vulnerable to water accumulation and make driving conditions difficult in parts of the capital and NCR.
