Heavy rain waterlogs AIIMS flyover loop and Sadar Bazar as Delhi records 7-11 cm rainfall

The AIIMS flyover loop was among the Delhi stretches hit by severe waterlogging after heavy rain on Tuesday morning, disrupting traffic as showers swept across the capital.

Rain was reported at AIIMS, Bhikaji Cama Place, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, RK Puram Sector 1 and Shanti Path. Delhi received 7-11 cm of rainfall, the India Meteorological Department said, after intense showers a day earlier had left the city heavily clouded.

In Sadar Bazar, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj shared visuals that he said showed rainwater entering shops and damaging traders’ goods. “Water has flooded the shops, goods are being ruined, and shopkeepers are left helpless,” he said.

The rain also prompted a political exchange over videos said to show waterlogging outside the new Parliament building and water dripping inside it. Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury shared the clips, while BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari rejected the claim. One video shared by Chowdhury was from August 2024.

The IMD forecast a generally cloudy sky on Wednesday, with very light to light rain likely in a few places from morning to noon.
