Hero Honda Chowk flyover repairs delayed as NHAI revises tender plan

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is revising the restoration package for the 1.4-km Hero Honda Chowk flyover after no specialised agency bid for the initial tender floated in May.

The original contract was estimated at Rs 22.3 crore. NHAI is reviewing the project cost, technical specifications, execution method and contract conditions before seeking approval and inviting fresh bids. NHAI officials expect the revised proposal to be ready within a week.

The proposed work includes repairs and strengthening of damaged parts of the flyover, including the deck slab and bearings. NHAI said a structural assessment recommended grouting, strengthening and partial replacement of affected sections. It said the flyover is stable overall but requires rehabilitation work on parts of the deck slab.

A nearly 20-metre stretch on the Gurugram-to-Delhi carriageway developed a visible depression in May 2024. The affected lane was barricaded, and traffic restrictions have continued. The damage later worsened, with concrete chipping away and reinforcement bars becoming visible.

The restrictions are likely to remain until NHAI appoints a contractor and work begins. NHAI has set a target of completing the restoration in around a month after finalising an agency.
