HSPCB seizes over 1.7 tonnes of banned plastic in Gurugram

Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) teams seized more than 1.7 tonnes of banned single-use plastic during a two-day enforcement drive in Gurugram.

At Badshahpur market, HSPCB’s Gurugram north team recovered 154kg of prohibited plastic items from two businesses, the board said. The following day, an inspection at M/s VS Plastics in Tek Chand Nagar, Dhanwapur, led to the recovery of 1,550kg.

The material recovered from the Dhanwapur facility was sent to JBM Enviro’s waste-to-energy plant in Tajpur, Sonipat, for disposal.

The inspections were part of the board’s campaign against the manufacture, storage, sale and use of banned single-use plastic products. Akanksha Tanwar, HSPCB’s regional officer for south Gurugram, said enforcement teams would conduct regular inspections and take action under environmental regulations.

HSPCB said it plans further drives in wholesale markets, commercial hubs and industrial areas, and urged traders, manufacturers and residents to use sustainable alternatives.
