IFFCO Chowk service road caves in after rain in Gurugram

A stretch of service road at IFFCO Chowk caved in after Monday’s heavy rain. A main sewer line maintained by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority runs beneath the affected stretch.

Traffic police placed temporary barricades and diverted vehicles from the damaged section. They informed the GMDA so repair work could begin. The link between the cave-in and the sewer infrastructure is being assessed.

The damage followed an hour of rain that overwhelmed roads and drainage in parts of Gurugram. The district advisory has asked corporate offices to allow employees to work from home from August 25, while government and private schools and institutions have been advised to shift classes online to reduce congestion and allow civic agencies to repair roads and drains.

Motorists using IFFCO Chowk should expect diversions around the affected service road while the GMDA carries out repairs.
