IIM Bangalore’s first undergraduate batch of 80 starts on August 31

Eighty students will begin IIM Bangalore’s first undergraduate programmes on August 31 at its Jigani-Anekal campus.

IIM Bangalore said the inaugural cohort was selected from about 12,000 applicants. It includes 56 male and 24 female students enrolled in four-year BSc (Honours) programmes in Data Science and Economics, with 40 seats in each course.

Thirty-nine students previously studied Commerce, 39 studied Science, and two studied Arts and Humanities. More than half scored above 90% in Class 12, while 44 scored above 90 marks in Mathematics.

CBSE students make up the largest group, with 51 students, followed by 23 from state boards. The batch includes students from 20 states: Maharashtra has 18 students, Karnataka has 13 and Uttar Pradesh has 10.

The undergraduate school, renamed the IIM Bangalore–Dorabji Tata School of Undergraduate Studies after an agreement with Tata Trusts, is about 23km from IIMB’s Bannerghatta Road campus. IIMB is developing the site as a residential academic campus.

IIMB has opened applications for its second undergraduate batch. Its entrance test is tentatively planned for November 15, followed by interviews expected in January.
