IIM Mumbai proposes urban management MBA for June 2027

IIM Mumbai has proposed an MBA in Urban Management starting in June 2027, aimed at civic officials and town planners who want to study while continuing in their jobs.

The Rs 16 lakh programme would have four modules and a multiple entry-exit format. Students completing one module could receive a certificate; two modules would lead to a diploma, three to an advanced diploma and all four to the MBA. Participants would have up to five years, rather than two, to complete the course.

Director Manoj Kumar Tiwari said the programme responds to the growing complexity of planning and managing expanding cities. Professor Vivekanand Khanapuri said the flexible structure is intended to let professionals pursue specialised learning without pausing their careers.

IIM Mumbai has proposed 60 seats for the programme's first intake in 2027. Its planned 2027 portfolio also includes an MBA in Finance developed with the National Stock Exchange, a postgraduate diploma in sports management and an executive MBA with weekend classes. An executive certificate programme in AI, blockchain and cyber security leadership, developed with C-DAC, is scheduled to begin in November 2026.
