IIT Bombay, Imperial College London launch clean-tech, med-tech partnership

IIT Bombay and Imperial College London have launched an institutional partnership focused initially on clean technology and medical technology, with opportunities for students and researchers to collaborate in Mumbai and London.

The institutions said the agreement covers joint research and innovation programmes, academic workshops, student exchanges and placements, and entrepreneurship initiatives. It also provides for knowledge and data-sharing on joint projects.

Researchers at the two institutions are already working together on water management, energy security, disease modelling and climate science. One project studies remote monitoring of upper-limb movement for diagnostics, physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Another examines data-led changes to India’s power sector, including demand flexibility, grid resilience, decarbonisation and affordability. A third combines quantum computing with biotechnology to explore climate-resilient crops.

IIT Bombay said 170 of its students took part this year in Imperial Enterprise Lab’s Global Challenge Lab, where students develop startup ideas with industry experts. The partnership includes further entrepreneurship initiatives.
