IIT Bombay honours 15 faculty members, 98 students at Powai event

Fifteen IIT Bombay faculty members received the Professor S.P. Sukhatme Awards for Excellence in Teaching at the institute’s Teachers’ Day programme in Powai on Friday. The institute also felicitated 98 students for academic performance.

The awardees came from departments including Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Science and Engineering, and the IDC School of Design. They included Prof Jayadipta Ghosh, Prof Amrita Banerjee, Prof Amit Arora, Prof Prasenjit Basu, Prof Meera Raghunandan and Prof Chandra Mouleeswara Rao Volla.

Dr B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, founder chairman and board member of Cyient, attended as chief guest. He said teachers help nurture leadership, character and purpose among young people.

Prof Shireesh Kedare, IIT Bombay’s director, said teaching extends beyond academic instruction and encouraged educators to foster curiosity and independent thought. Senior institute officials, faculty members, staff and students attended the programme, which marked former president Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary.
