IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus starts first in-person solar diploma

Nine fellows from eight countries began IIT Delhi’s first in-person programme at its Sonipat campus on September 3: a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Solar Systems and Management.

IIT Delhi’s Department of Energy Science and Engineering offers the course, which covers solar technology and its applications through teaching by institute faculty, academic experts and industry professionals. The programme aims to build skills for deploying solar technologies in International Solar Alliance member countries.

IIT Delhi is running the programme with the International Solar Alliance and France’s Institut National de l’Energie Solaire, with support from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. Professor Somnath Baidya Roy, professor-in-charge of the Sonipat campus, said the institute plans to add more academic programmes there.

Fellows who complete the diploma will undertake a one-month internship in Europe focused on applied solar technologies before being assigned to Solar Technology Application Resource Centres in their home countries.
