India elect to field first against Afghanistan in Delhi T20I

Shreyas Iyer chose to bowl after winning the toss for India’s first T20I against Afghanistan in New Delhi on Sunday.

“Whenever you come to Delhi, you know what the pitch has got to offer, it usually is a bowl first wicket,” Iyer said at the toss. It is his first home match as India’s T20I captain.

Sanju Samson was picked as wicketkeeper, with Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakaravarthy completing India’s XI. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi did not make the side.

Afghanistan’s XI is led by Ibrahim Zadran and includes Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad and Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Delhi will host the next two matches of the series on September 15 and September 17. The games will be telecast on Sony Sports channels and streamed on FanCode.
