Gurugram: IndiGo carries 80.82 lakh domestic passengers in July

Gurugram-based IndiGo carried 80.82 lakh domestic passengers in July, as overall domestic air traffic fell 4.8% from a year earlier.

Indian airlines carried 1.20 crore passengers during the month, compared with 1.26 crore in July last year, Directorate General of Civil Aviation data showed. IndiGo's July count was also lower than the 89.20 lakh passengers it carried in June.

The Air India group flew 28.75 lakh passengers in July, against 32.22 lakh in June. Akasa Air carried 6.65 lakh passengers, down from 8.61 lakh, while SpiceJet carried 1.87 lakh, compared with 2.63 lakh in June.

Despite the month-on-month drop in passenger numbers, IndiGo increased its market share to 67.4% in July from 66.3% in June. The Air India group's share edged up to 24%, while Akasa's fell to 5.5% and SpiceJet's to 1.6%.

Across flights to and from 10 domestic airports, including Delhi, IndiGo recorded 91.2% on-time performance in July, followed by Akasa Air at 90.8%. Domestic carriers transported 984.03 lakh passengers between January and July, up 0.64% from 977.79 lakh in the same period last year.
