Inside Neena Gupta’s Mumbai home, old doors and film memories share wall space

An old door has found a second life as wall décor in Neena Gupta’s Mumbai apartment, set against brown tones rather than returned to a frame.

The home, shared with her daughter Masaba Gupta, uses a largely white-and-wood palette. Brown-and-white plant pots and smaller pots add detail to its corners, while powder-blue sofas, printed cushions and paintings bring colour into the rooms.

A painting by artist Lalitha Laxmi holds particular meaning for Gupta. It was the first expensive painting she bought for herself and depicts two women, one holding a blue bird.

Posters from Gupta’s films sit alongside awards and old photographs of Gupta and Masaba. A paintbrush gifted by M.F. Hussain is framed inside an antique doorframe, displayed with the home’s other personal objects.

The framed paintbrush, film posters, awards and photographs form a wall display that records Gupta’s career and family life.
