Delhi-Gurugram traffic slows as rain and Kanwar routes add pressure

Delhi-NCR commuters faced extended delays as Kanwar Yatra convoys, rain-related waterlogging and traffic diversions put pressure on major roads.

In Gurugram, congestion was reported on NH-48 between Jharsa Chowk and Ambience Mall; on routes from Narsinghpur towards Sector 34 and from Jharsa towards Ambience Mall; and between Rajiv Chowk and Badshahpur on Sohna Road. Traffic police said pilgrim convoys entering highways added to rush-hour congestion. Enforcement teams created separate service-lane routes for Kanwar pilgrims and directed regular vehicles into designated lanes.

In Delhi, traffic moved slowly around Kalindi Kunj, Ghazipur, Anand Vihar and Dilshad Garden. Nearly 2,000 traffic personnel were deployed for Kanwar duty. Closures in Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Noida, including on parts of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and GT Road, shifted vehicles towards NH-9, where queues extended towards Ghaziabad.

Heavy rain caused waterlogging and some vehicle breakdowns, worsening congestion. From August 12 to 15, Delhi Traffic Police have advised commuters to avoid Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg during peak hours because of the Bharat Vyapar Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam. Those travelling between Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram should allow extra time and check traffic conditions before leaving.
