Kanwar Yatra diversions slow traffic across Noida and Ghaziabad

Commuters travelling through Noida and Ghaziabad faced long delays on Monday as road space was restricted for Kanwar Yatra movement.

In Ghaziabad, diversions affected stretches of Delhi-Meerut Road, GT Road and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Traffic routed towards NH-9 led to heavy morning congestion between Mehrauli and Lal Kuan, near the Gautam Budh Nagar border. Ghaziabad traffic police said the diversions will continue until August 12, with the Meerut-Ghaziabad carriageway of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway shut at present.

Noida saw congestion on routes connecting Delhi to Chilla Border and Kalindi Kunj, especially between 8am and 10am and again from 6pm to 8pm. Two of the four lanes on the Kalindi Kunj bridge, in the direction from Okhla Barrage towards Okhla Bird Sanctuary, were closed for pilgrims.

The yatra route in Noida runs through Mayur Vihar, past Shani Temple and Okhla Bird Sanctuary, before exiting at Kalindi Kunj. Motorists using NH-9, Kalindi Kunj and Chilla Border should allow extra travel time while restrictions remain in force.
