Kareena Kapoor introduces DCP Ajooni at Delhi event for Daayra

Kareena Kapoor introduced DCP Ajooni at a Delhi promotional event ahead of the September 18 theatrical release of *Daayra*, Meghna Gulzar’s crime thriller.

Kapoor said Ajooni is a woman who remains feminine while carrying the authority and discipline of a senior police officer. “She puts on lipstick but at the same time is quite stern,” Kapoor said, describing a character who does her job with a smile.

In the film, Ajooni and Raman, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran, are police officers who disagree over how criminals should be punished. Kapoor said that moral conflict made the role difficult: while she tends to see life in clear terms, the film occupies a greyer space.

*Daayra* is co-written and directed by Gulzar, and produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios. It marks Kapoor’s return to theatres two years after *Singham Again*, released in 2024.

The film opens in theatres on September 18.
