Karnataka seeks approval for 1,000 faculty hires at State universities

At least 1,000 permanent faculty members could be recruited across Karnataka’s 32 State universities this academic year, including at Bangalore University.

Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi discussed staff vacancies, infrastructure and university finances at a meeting with vice-chancellors from institutions including Bangalore University, Karnatak University and Gulbarga University. He said the government would place a file before the Finance Department seeking clearance for the proposed appointments.

The proposed recruitment would fill teaching posts with permanent faculty members across the universities.

Vice-chancellors also sought additional grants from the Union government, private-sector CSR initiatives and organisations such as the Asian Development Bank. They asked for timely disbursal of scholarships funded through the Scheduled Castes Sub-Plan and Tribal Sub-Plan for SC and ST students in higher education.

The Finance Department must consider the proposal before recruitment can proceed.
